Avatru Tracker Setup & FAQ

Set up your Avatru Glowfly or Aura full body trackers for compatible SlimeVR Server, SteamVR and VRChat PCVR use. Find answers about headset compatibility, software installation, PC hotspots, router Wi-Fi, charging and tracking.

Before troubleshooting: charge the trackers, use 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, and use only English letters and numbers in the SSID and password. A USB data cable is required to write custom Wi-Fi settings; the one-to-many cable is for charging.

Before you buy

What do I need to use Avatru full body trackers?

For the PCVR setup described here, you need a compatible PC and VR headset, SlimeVR Server, SteamVR, and a 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi connection for the trackers. You can use a suitable PC hotspot or a router. Your VR application must support full-body tracking, and you will need to complete initial setup and calibration.

Aura contains 6 trackers; Glowfly contains 8. The headset and PC are separate from the tracker kit.

Are Avatru Glowfly and Aura compatible with SlimeVR Server?

Yes. Both Avatru Wi-Fi tracker models send motion data to compatible SlimeVR Server software. In the PCVR workflow, the server passes body-tracking information to SteamVR for supported applications such as VRChat.

Avatru is an independent hardware brand. These kits are compatible products, not official SlimeVR-branded trackers. For an Avatru hardware or setup issue, contact Avatru support with your model and SlimeVR Server version.

Which VR headsets work with Avatru trackers?

The documented PCVR setup works through SlimeVR Server and SteamVR. Compatible setups include Meta Quest 2, Quest 3, Quest 3S and Quest Pro in PCVR mode, PICO 4 in PCVR mode, Valve Index, and compatible HTC VIVE headsets.

The headset must first connect to your PC using its supported PCVR software. Trackers connect to SlimeVR Server over Wi-Fi; they do not pair directly to the headset by Bluetooth. For other models, check the SlimeVR compatibility guide and the headset's PCVR requirements.

Can I use a Quest or PICO headset without a gaming PC?

This Avatru guide covers PCVR and requires a compatible PC. SlimeVR also documents a separate OSC workflow for standalone VRChat on supported headsets, with SlimeVR Server running on a compatible host. That is a different setup and is not a promise of direct, plug-and-play headset pairing.

If standalone use is essential for you, review the official OSC requirements and confirm your intended headset and server setup with Avatru before ordering.

Do Avatru trackers need base stations or external cameras?

No external base stations or cameras are required for the trackers' body tracking. Motion sensors measure tracker movement, and SlimeVR Server uses the tracker data and body setup to estimate your pose. Your headset and controllers still need their own supported tracking system.

A clear camera view of each tracker is not required. Secure mounting, calibration and reliable Wi-Fi still matter.

Software and Wi-Fi setup

Which software should I install, and in what order?

  1. Install SteamVR through Steam and launch it once. Make sure your headset works in its supported PCVR setup.
  2. Download SlimeVR Server from the official installation guide. Keep the recommended SteamVR components and USB drivers selected for PCVR use.
  3. Let the installer install its required dependencies. If it requests Java or another component, follow the requirement shown by that installer.
  4. Open SlimeVR Server, connect the trackers using one of the Wi-Fi methods below, then assign body positions and complete calibration.

Menu names can vary between server versions.

How do I connect using a PC Wi-Fi hotspot?

  1. Charge the trackers and keep them near the PC for initial setup.
  2. In Windows, open Settings > Network & internet > Mobile hotspot. Share the PC's connection over Wi-Fi and edit the hotspot properties.
  3. Set the network band to 2.4 GHz. For trackers that still have the factory network preset, set the hotspot name to Avatru and password to 12345678, matching the capitalization exactly.
  4. Turn on the hotspot, open SlimeVR Server on that PC, then power on the trackers. Check that every tracker appears before assigning body positions and calibrating.

If you previously changed a tracker's saved Wi-Fi details, use the USB data-cable method to configure it for this hotspot. The factory name and password are not a reset command.

Your PC's Wi-Fi adapter must support hosting a 2.4 GHz hotspot. If it cannot, use a suitable adapter or the router method. Leave enough client slots for all 6 or 8 trackers and disconnect unneeded devices.

How do I connect through a Wi-Fi router?

  1. Enable a 2.4 GHz network on your router. Use only English letters and numbers in both the network name (SSID) and password.
  2. For the simplest setup, connect the PC to that same network. The PC and trackers must be able to communicate on the same local network.
  3. Open the Wi-Fi setup wizard in SlimeVR Server and enter the router's SSID and password exactly.
  4. Use a USB cable that supports data to connect one powered-on tracker to the PC. Follow the wizard to save the network settings.
  5. Repeat for each tracker individually. Confirm that all trackers appear in the server, then assign body positions and calibrate.

If your router combines 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz under one name and setup fails, create a separate 2.4 GHz SSID. Avoid a guest network that isolates devices from the PC. An Ethernet-connected PC can share the same local network if the router allows communication with its Wi-Fi devices.

Does Avatru support 5 GHz Wi-Fi or special characters in the password?

The trackers support 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi only. They cannot connect to a 5 GHz-only network.

For these Avatru trackers, use English letters A-Z / a-z and digits 0-9 only in both the SSID and password. Avoid spaces, punctuation, Chinese characters, emoji and other symbols. Both fields are case-sensitive.

This 2.4 GHz requirement applies to the trackers. A PC connected by Ethernet or a headset using another band is possible when the devices remain on the same local network and can communicate.

Can I use the one-to-many charging cable for Wi-Fi configuration?

No. The one-to-many USB-C cable is for charging, not data transfer. For Wi-Fi configuration, connect one tracker at a time with a USB data cable.

A tracker can charge successfully through a cable that cannot transfer data. If the setup wizard cannot detect it, try a known data cable and another USB port before changing other settings. After Wi-Fi setup, normal tracking data is sent over Wi-Fi.

Connection and tracking help

Why do my trackers keep disconnecting?

Check the battery first and recharge promptly. Low battery can affect Wi-Fi stability. Fully charge the affected trackers, restart them, and test close to the router or PC hotspot.

If disconnections continue, confirm that the network is 2.4 GHz, the signal is stable, and the router or hotspot has enough available device connections. If the router connection remains unreliable, try a compatible 2.4 GHz PC hotspot, or switch from an unreliable hotspot to the router method.

Turn the trackers off after use. If the issue persists, tell Avatru whether it affects one tracker or all of them.

What should I check if trackers do not appear in SlimeVR Server?

  1. Power: charge the trackers, turn them on and keep them close to the network access point.
  2. Wi-Fi: check 2.4 GHz, spelling, capitalization and letters-and-numbers-only SSID/password.
  3. Saved network: confirm the trackers are configured for the hotspot or router you are actually using. Re-enter credentials with a data cable if needed.
  4. Network access: keep the PC and trackers on the same local network; check guest-network isolation and the router's device limit.
  5. PC access: on your trusted home network, check Windows' private-network settings and allow SlimeVR Server through the firewall. Keep firewall protection enabled.

Restart the server and affected trackers after correcting the setup. If only USB detection fails, first check the data cable and USB drivers.

The trackers appear in SlimeVR Server, but not in SteamVR or VRChat. What now?

Check that the SlimeVR SteamVR add-on is enabled in SteamVR's Manage Add-Ons settings, and that SteamVR tracker output is enabled in SlimeVR Server. Restart SteamVR after making changes.

Confirm that the headset is working in PCVR, then check body assignments and calibration in the server. In VRChat, complete its FBT calibration using a suitable avatar. Seeing a tracker in the server confirms one part of the connection; the SteamVR and application setup must also be complete.

Why is my avatar drifting, sliding or moving in the wrong direction?

First check whether the physical trackers are sliding or rotating on their straps. Then verify each body-position assignment, mounting orientation, body proportions and headset floor height. Follow the SlimeVR setup wizard for mounting and body calibration, then calibrate FBT in VRChat.

IMU tracking can accumulate orientation drift during use. Use the appropriate reset in SlimeVR Server and follow its on-screen pose instructions. Recheck mounting calibration whenever you change a tracker's orientation or wearing position. A reset does not fix a loose strap or an incorrect body assignment.

Wearing and everyday use

How are Glowfly and Aura attached to the straps?

Glowfly: pass the strap through the side slots and across the back of the tracker for a secure strap-through fit.

Aura: press the tracker's bottom hook-and-loop surface flat against the strap's outer loop surface. The tracker should sit squarely against the strap, not hang at an angle.

The silicone anti-slip pattern faces inward. Fasten the straps comfortably and firmly so the trackers do not slide or rotate. Keep the USB-C port facing downward where practical, then calibrate for the actual mounting orientation.

How long do Glowfly and Aura last, and when should I charge them?

Glowfly: 15h+ battery life with a 1200 mAh battery per tracker.
Aura: 10h+ battery life with an 800 mAh battery per tracker.

Runtime varies with usage and network conditions. Charge fully before first use or after storage, recharge when battery is low, and switch the trackers off after each session. For connection problems, eliminate low battery as a cause before spending time on network troubleshooting.
